Brown Color Urine
بقول ابن سینا: اصود دموی
According to the Modern Medicine
This is generally indicative of secretion of “excess bilirubin from the liver into the urine. Certain diseases such as liver cancer, cirrhosis and acute hepatitis can also lead to dark brown urine”.
Brown Urine and Acetaminophen: “In 1980, a case series on acetaminophen overdose demonstrated that in addition to hepatorenal failure, three patients developed brown urine because of the buildup of the metabolite aminophenol.”
Metastatic melanoma: “Brown urine could be a sign of melanocytes in the urinary system. Metastatic melanoma can lead to a rare condition called diffuse melanosis, causing dark skin, distant lesions to the internal organs, and brown or black urine. One case report mentions a patient with acute kidney injury from melanin accumulation in the tubular system. So this can be a dangerous sign.”
Extreme exercise: “Muscle injury from extreme exercise can result in pink, brown or cola-colored urine and kidney damage.”
Note: “Old clot sediment can appear brown when suspended in the urine of a certain concentration. Likewise, myoglobinuria and hemoglobinuria often appear brown in color. To this accord, a report of “rust-colored urine” after intense hand drumming has been published in a research paper.”
The pathological renal disease can also produce brown urine discoloration. One classic example is the “muddy brown urine” observed in acute tubular necrosis.
Muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis): “After distance running, prolonged immobilization, compression of the limb due to prolonged lying, severe alcohol intoxication, muscle tremor, seizures, severe trauma and burns.”
Infections: “Influenza (fever, headache, fatigue), HIV/AIDS, infectious mononucleosis caused by Epstein-Barr virus (headache, fever, rash, enlarged lymph nodes), cytomegalovirus infection, herpes genitalis (burning blisters on genitals), shingles (band-shaped rash), food poisoning with diarrhea (Salmonella, Shigella, E.coli), dengue and severe malaria fever can also cause brown urine.”
Always remember that “causes of black urine discoloration can also produce brown urine discoloration with differing urine concentrations.”
If it persists even after drinking 2-3 glasses of water, contact your physician as soon as possible.
